Looking for ways to use up your real maple syrup?

My brother in law, Tim, who taps his own maple trees (well, his neighbor taps them and Tim gets the syrup) recently gave me this dessert recipe. I made it for my husband's birthday, and it is just wonderful. It calls for equal amounts of maple syrup (the REAL stuff) and heavy cream. What I am hoping for is that the fat content of the cream counters the sugar effect of the syrup. Am I hoping for too much?

I hope you will try this, it's very easy to make.

Maple Bavarian Creme

Heat in a saucepan until it just comes to a boil:
1 1/2 cups pure maple syrup

Dissolve 1 packet of plain gelatin (Knox brand) in 1/3 cup cold water. Stir this mixture into the warm maple syrup. Stir with a whisk so that there are no lumps of gelatin remaining.
Allow this to cool down to room temperature.

Whisk in 1 1/2 cups heavy cream and 1/4 teaspoon of salt till well blended.

Pour the Bavarian Creme into ramekins (or paper cups if that's all you have) and chill.

I served mine with toasted pecans on top.

A new day is better than ice cream!

I had grand thoughts of a great blog, with pictures and commentary. Well I discovered that I need to get started even without the wonderful pictures and articles. Life gives us daily doses of "alamode" things that add a simple richness to the day. This morning I woke up to yet another New England winter dollop of snow. I had been getting tired of winter but the sight of the clean white snow this morning made me smile. It reminded me this verse in the Old Testament:

Come now and let us reason together,
Says Jehovah.
Though your sins are like scarlet,
The will be as white as snow;
Thought they are as red as crimson,
They will be like wool.
Isaiah 1:19 (RV)

Isn't good to get a clean fresh start with every new day?
